post-kickoff

Hey guys;
Great job today at Kickoff! For those of you who missed it (or for those of you who are just dying to relive those heartwarming speeches about WE ARE THE FUTURE or TECHNOLOGY GROWS UP SO FAST) you can find a recording at http://robotics.nasa.gov/ . Learn it. Live it. Breathe it.
Also, the design process video (because that was the highlight of your morning) is here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HU3_N_emoks for viewing at your leisure. (Grant Imahara is my best friend.)
Remember, bring your ideas (and hopefully sketches?) for solving the main challenges we plotted out today for the Tuesday meeting. We’re hoping to build an offensive bot. Throwing propulsion, maneuvering those teeter totter obstacles, and aiming are probably our biggest challenges for now.
Hopefully, this Tuesday and Thursday we’ll get a better vision of what our Bot is. Ideally, we’ll accomplish five things this week:
Identify challenges Design/Evaluate multiple solutions to challenges Get -really- organized  Acquire materials for practice field Decide on final, optimal solutions to challenges Part one is done, for the most part. That’s what we did on the white board today. Part 3 is also pretty good — a huge thanks to everyone who helped take inventory and organize everything, it looks great! The more organized we are, the easier things will be when it comes down to the wire. Part five, I imagine, will be accomplished on Saturday, so BE THERE if you want say in the matter. That leaves parts two and four to be accomplished. If we have extra time, we may start going over basic things to know for the robot for rookies (or people inexperienced in certain areas of expertise). Remember that this is the beginning of the Build season; it gets hardcore from here on out. After school Tuesdays and Thursdays is until five, although there may be days you’ll be later, and Saturdays are penciled in from 10:00 to 3:00 (bring 5 dollars on Saturday meetings for pizza (yum) if you so desire).

One final note; Tuesday is picture day! (um… yay… *sigh*) So, please, please, please be there. It makes life easier for all of us (we don’t want to have to hunt you down). We won’t have our shirts yet, so just look nice.

Thanks again, and we’ll see you all Tuesday with your ideas.
